Moon Man wonders why “Do Rags” were Mentioned

Why a Do Rag?

If you wanta hear the audio for yourself. Google it! I’m here for Fantasy Football but had to write about this hot topic. The joys of the off season. I’ve broken the Kam Chancellor Gym Incident down into three sections. Please read on:

  1. Clearly the female who called the police was fearful of what might happen if the men entered the gym.
  2. Clearly there was a reason or reasons behind her fear. People don’t just become fearful when random strangers knock or even bang on the window. Maybe there has been issues with males in her past. In a negative sense or maybe because of the recent issues facing the community. She stereotyped the 5 males as heroin or homeless people.
  3. Clearly with #2 stated. This woman has what I call “subconscious predjudice”. To associate a homeless person as dangerous simply because they are homeless is unjust. To associate a heroin addict as dangerous simply because of their addiction is also unjust. Some may say ignornant but I do not know this woman so I cannot label her. I do not know her everyday life situations. All I’m trying to do is understand all 3 parties side.

It was obvious to me after reading the articles and hearing the dispatch audio. That the dispatcher may have been the real issue here. What stood out to me the most after researching this incident. Was how the dispatcher automatically assumed the 3 black men would possibly be wearing do rags. The dispatcher used that as an example when trying to get a description of the males. Unless there has been crime in the area. Where the acts are of crime are being committed by black males wearing do rags. Then this question by the dispatcher is a prime example of the racism/predjucie that is unjust.

  1. The dispatcher needs to be non bias and this audio for this particular situation displayed the negative stereotype with the do rag reference in my opinion.
  2. At the beginning of the audio. The caller claims that 3 African American males and 2 white males were banging on the window. Do you see the issues with that statement? If you don’t. I will gladly help.
  3. So what makes the 3 males African American? The color of their skin? Well that was a stereotype and unjust. The 3 males could have been other ethnicities. Not all dark colored people are African American. Grrrr and why aren’t the 2 white males Italian? Do you see how the thought process is unjust here? This is a perfect example of the racial inequality in today’s America. Hearing that this caller separated the 3 black males from the 2 white males lets the listener develop an opinion. My opinion is that this caller is fearful of African Americans and considers Whites all the same. I’m less inclined to think there is any malice in her racial comments. I more so think she is confused.

Now to Kam Chancellor. The whole situation was clearly a misundstanding. If I had to pick for the sake of being fair and gaining the audience’s attention. When Kam mentioned well maybe they don’t want a gym in the town. I asked myself. “Well, why does this one situation have to dictate how the community feels overall?” Kam is a human just like everyone else and I sensed his frustration through his reaction.

Still, Celebrity status doesn’t mean you can go knocking on doors expecting people to just be like, Hey come on in. I hope Kam lets this situation ground him in his efforts to improve society. Kam displayed great character in re joining the Seahawks without reaching a contractual agreement this past season. There is no doubt in my opinion that Kam handled this situation justly.

There you have it. My opinion of all three parties involved. You may ask yourself why I didn’t mention the police in this article. No need too. Like the thousands of situations that the police handle daily isnt enough. This was another situation handled well. Try to use perspective when analyzing the police, people and criminals.
