Thank You Peyton Manning

Seems like yesterday when Peyton Manning fell past rounds 1 and 2. What was a fantasy guru to do? Surely draft Peyton ahead of you! That was fantasy owners worldwide when Peyton came back from injury in 2012.

The Denver Broncos organization signed Peyton Manning in 2012 after he was released by the Indianapolis Colts. Enter Andrew Luck as the #1 overall NFL draft pick. Since then:

The Indianapolis Colts won their AFC South Division in 2013 and 2014.

The Denver Broncos went 13-3 in 2012 and 2013. Winning the AFC West Division both years. Last year the New England Patriot’s crushed Andrew Luck’s Colts in the AFC Championship game. Still, the Broncos finished 12-4 in 2014 and won the AFC West once again. This year led by the #1 ranked defense. The Peyton-less Broncos captured another AFC West title and find themselves in the Superbowl.

I will find it ironic when Peyton Manning wins his second Superbowl ring this Sunday. In perhaps Peyton’s final NFL game as a quarterback. He is matching up against a #1 caliber defense. Is this deja vu? Yes, it is! The Seattle Seahawks team that blew out the Peyton lead Broncos in Superbowl XLVIII. Is reincarnated in the form of the Carolina Panthers.

It’s obvious when watching Peyton’s throws. That the Panthers are in line for a pick sick. It’s also obvious to me that Peyton will use his brain this time around. He did not adjust quick enough against Seattle. This year the Broncos have two offenses to run. A Gary Kubiak/Rich Dennison offense combined with a Peyton/Tom Moore offense. All season long the Broncos offensive players were fantasy disappointments. Hard to predict and over valued in Daily Fantasy Sports(DFS). Now with the trial-and-error finished. Peyton is healthy enough to bounce around alittle in the pocket. Move around on play-action passes and even scramble on a boot-leg. The offense is there and with a few new tricks tossed in the mix this Superbowl 50.

Peyton Manning should dictate the offensive play calling at the line of scrimmage. The Broncos Defense will contain Cam Newton and cause turnovers. It is not Cam Newton’s time to shine. Nor is it Peyton’s time to shine. The defenses will shine bright Sunday. When the last 4 minutes of the 4th quarter arrive. Peyton will either be running the clock down with a lead or managing a game winning drive!

Thank You Peyton Manning for all of the wonderful memories on the field. It’s has been a pleasure. Please keep doing commercials though. Hilarious!

  1. Good article, but I’m going to have to disagree with you on this one. As much as I like Peyton, I think Cam is just too much for ANY defense to handle. His ability to run will be the difference maker.
