MOON MAN’S FANTASY FOOTBALL CHRONICLES: WHO OF THE TOP THREE WILL IT BE?
Mike Williams 7th overall.
John Ross 9th overall.
Corey Davis 5th overall.
Between a mutant with hands in Mike Williams, a speedster running routes in John Ross and the common man mutant Corey Davis. Moon Man like Corey Davis to be the best wide receiver of the three in year 1.
The Los Angeles Super Chargers will lineup Mike Williams should slide in at the #1 spot. Keenan Allen in the slot and Tyrell Williams at the #2 receiver. Dontrelle Inman held his own the last couple seasons and Travis Benjamin is onboard too. The Chargers have depth at the receiver position with Hunter Henry steeping in for Antonio Gates to top it off. It looks on paper to be favorable for Phillip Rivers.
As always with the Chargers. Moon Man needs to see. Lets wait until training camp and see if Melvin Gordon is the real deal because the Charger’s offense will have a different look in 2017. No more 2 yard dump offs to Danny Woodhead and depending on Keenan Allen to snag 10+ receptions is a plus. In 2016 Gordon caught 41 balls but had a 3.9 ypc. There is a lot of buzz around the possibilities. Moon Man remains pessimistic here.
John Ross is the most appealing option for moon man. Simply because of what Marvin Jones Jr. did in 2015. Ross is faster and Andy Dalton is better now. John Ross could put up a 60 reception 1,080 yards season with 9 tds. The Bengals are a run first team with a true #1 wr in A.J. Green and a dominate red zone tight end in Tyler Eifert. They resigned Brandon Lafell, drafted running back Joe Mixon and have 2016 second round pick Tyler Boyd. John Ross will be an immediate Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) play with a high risk high reward in league play. Brandon Lafell is a solid #2 option currently and moon man wouldn’t reach for John Ross.
Corey Davis will compete with Rishard Matthews, Delanie Walker and Tajae Sharpe for targets. Moon Man sees 130 targets as his ceiling if injuries occur. Rishard Matthews scored easily last year and Corey Davis will eat into those touchdowns while adding big plays of his own. With Kendall Wright gone, Tajae Sharpe will move the chains with Delanie Walker on third downs. Delanie’s targets declined to 102 last season from 133 in 2015. Expect those targets to drop under 100 for the first time since Delanie joined the Tennessee Titans 4 seasons ago. Corey Davis wont be flying off the draft board like Mike Williams and John Ross. The Rivers to Williams connection is appealing. John Ross’s big play ability will add to the potential of scooping up Corey Davis way late in drafts.
Match that up with a run heavy approach and Corey Davis will reap the benefits of playaction. Not to mention another year under Marcus Mariota’s belt. Corey Davis is clearly Moon Man’s rookie receiver to target. Again the receiving position is deep and Fantasy Football Leagues can be won using the waiver wire weekly. Because at the end of the day any rookie wr can be a reach so letting the first few weeks play out and snagging a sure bet or hot player on the wire is recommended. Let players slide in drafts. Do not be that owner who reaches. Save reaching the other owners.
Moon Man Rankings:
Mike Williams #38 wide receiver.
John Ross #45 wide receiver.
Corey Davis #20 Corey Davis
