Is Alex Smith a Fantasy Option in 2018?

Washington Redskins trade for Quarterback Alex Smith. The Kansas City Chiefs receive the Redskins 2018 Third Round Draft Pick and cornerback Kendall Fuller.

Alex Smith had his best real life NFL season in 2017. As well as his best Fantasy Football season. Smith passed for 4,042 yards with 26 touchdowns and only 5 interceptions. Add 60 rushing attempts for 355 yards and 1 touchdown. The man was a good play in Daily Fantasy Sports due to his low cost early on. Opening day he threw 4 touchdowns at New England and then faded mid season only to repeat 4 touchdowns at the J-E-T-S! Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce were obvious stacks while Kareem Hunt was frustrating all season in DFS after we decided to believe. We then couldn’t let go, only for Hunt to redeem himself. However, his redemption was easier to predict with the offensive play calling changeover.

Overall Alex Smith produced for his standards, Kareem Hunt is now a Top 20 player in Fantasy Football League play, Tyreek Hill is boom or bust and Travis Kelce is a top tight end with questions surrounding Patrick Mahomes in 2018. One thing is for sure, Mahomes has a cannon and can make every NFL throw. The speed of the Chiefs playmakers combined with strategic offensive play calling should produce Fantasy stats for the Chief’s big three. We will hear Kelce as a great option since young quarterback can depend on the tight end. Kareem Hunt out of the backfield combined with Mahomes mobility is exciting. While play action and Mahomes ability to throw the ball out of the stadium bring Tyreek Hill into the Top 10 Wide Receivers for Moon Man. Considering Hill will fall in league drafts with the second year quarterback under center and his big play potential in DFS. Hill is a lock on moon man’s radar. It is February. Why the hect not reach for Mahomes after witnessing Deshaun Watson in 2017 and go for Hill’s overlooked upside.

In Fantasy Football league play in which two or three quarterbacks start. Mahomes is worth the reach. That will not change from now through August. So the Chiefs traded Smith to the Redskins while the Cleveland Indians changed their logo. Hmmm, busy weekend for wanna-be social media world changers.lol.

Jay Gruden in Washington will have Alex Smith producing as a consistent QB2 with upside every week. I do think the Redskins have a lot of work to do through the draft and free agency this off season. A Jay Gruden offense needs multiple playmakers. Excited to see what happens. Dallas will be back as a 10 win team, the Birds are building a perennial 10 win team, while the Giants and Redskins have question marks. New Head Coaches have sparked surprises in recent years so Giant’s fans have hope.

Moon Man expects Alex Smith to have a consistent 2 touchdown floor week in and week out. No more of that 1 touchdown nonsense. When Kirk Cousins rushes for touchdowns in that offense. Alex Smith is a step up in the run game and more importantly a better fit for Jay Gruden’s offense. Kirk Cousins did not protect the ball enough for Gruden’s standards in my opinion as Smith will. Huge difference between the two. Not to mention the fact that Smith thinks he can beat Cam Newtonin a foot race.

As Always,

(Teams Going Off + Thoughts Flexed In) = Combination Lineups

May the Fantasy Force Be With You.
